Fun with no sun
They had looked forward to it all week. The family reunion at the beach is one of our many summer highlights. Seeing their excited faces as we talked about the water and the BIG sand box was contagious. We packed up our swim suits, we remembered the sun screen, we put on our sunglasses and headed out on this mighty fine summer day.
Two and a half hours later we were nearing lake Michigan and the closer we got the more the weather was changing. The rain came. The wind picked up. The sun was gone.
We ran to the shelter in the pouring rain and enjoyed visiting with Dave's family. Some of them we hadn't seen for two years. The food was delicious and the conversation fun. But still - three little boys looked up at us with longing eyes.
What about the beach? The water? The sand...?
I thought Dave was joking when he said we would head down the board walk and go ahead and visit the beach.
The rain increased. The lake came into view and as usual it nearly took my breath away. This time there was an added majesty about it in the crashing waves and turbulent peaks.
It was absolutely beautiful.
Not a typical beach day - but I was surprised by beauty in the unexpected.

Are those K's footprints? The pictures takes my breath away. I saw you take your "journey" to the beach and it started raining harder and you kept going. I am so glad that they had so much fun. I love all of you so much.
Glad that a little rain and rough water didn't keep you guys from enjoying the beauty of it.
Those are some wonderful pictures. The last one is precious!
I agree!!! Lake Michigan is beautiful no matter the weather!!! It wasn't very warm the week we were there. It even rained on us when we went biking around the island!!! Fun times anyway!! You have good memories to put away anyway, too!!!
I bet your biys will remember that day for years. It was cold and rainy, but it looks like everyone had a blast anyway! Hugs! How are you feeling?
I love the look on your face in that last photo! So much love in those eyes.
That shot of you & the boys is TOO CUTE!!!
Love the pics...especially the one of you and your boys. Precious!
Oh! You have no idea how much I love these pictures. Just seeing the beach does wonders for my soul - so calming, so serene, even with choppy waves and on a rainy day. Good for you guys for letting them go down there - rain or no rain. It's all about making those memories.
