 But really, WHY?

Being the mom to three very unique boys quite often leaves me wondering...why? So many things. Why? Like why does my two year old walk around the house with a fly swatter calling out "Muffy! Muffy? Muuuuufffyyyyy!" ? Really? Has he named a fly? Is it his pet? If so, why does he have a fly swatter in his hand? Is he going to kill his pet? Does he have tendencies to hurt the things he loves? If he doesn't love it, why has he given it a name? Or the fact that my 6 year old must have a white wash cloth in his hand at all times. It must have a tag on it and the tag must have words on it. If he ends up with one in which the words have worn off from many washings *shudder* than life simply can not go on until it is replaced with one that has words. Why? Oh why, why why? Others have asked me why. I have no answer. Is it because he has to be clean at all times? My white wash cloths are softer? He wants to read the tag to make sure he is using one that is 100% cotton?? We worried too much about tactile aversions when he was a baby and overloaded him with different textures, so now he must feel a texture in his hands at all times??? And why does my four year old insist on wearing his clothes backwards and his shoes on the wrong feet? At first he was just learning to dress himself and we allowed him to "mess up" a time or two. Now it is often intentional. Is he revolting against all things normal and trendy, like his daddy, already? Perhaps he really is still making mistakes and just pretending that he meant to do it - so as not to look like he messed up? Are clothes more comfortable to him when put on backwards? Why does he do this? Why are they all obsessed with bubble wrap? Why do they beg to go to the county fair - talking non stop about the animals - only to scream in horror when we get to the animals? Why do they still ask for ice cream for breakfast when they know it has never been offered for breakfast, it has never been given for breakfast, and they will never eat it for breakfast? How can they be so sweet, precious, and innocent some times, and other times display a naughtiness that can cause a grown woman to want to curl up in the fetal position in a corner, whimper like a baby, mutter unintelligible things, while slowly pulling hairs out of her head one by one? My guess is that as time moves forward and these crazy precious little guys of mine grow up the WHY'S will only increase. What a ride!

Well, you made me laugh OUT LOUD as I read this post!!I was just looking through some old journals of mine and came upon a little "grandchild incident" :I was trying to feed baby Elisabeth while she was squirming in a makeshift high chair and I said,"I sure need to get a high chair that has a tray!" After thinking a minute, little 2 1/2 year old Christine said excitedly,"I know where you can get a high chair,Gma Pat! At McDonalds!!I can go there with you and we can get Belsbeth a new high chair!" So I guess maybe the kids think McDonalds sells more than just happy meals...............:) These little ones never cease to amaze me with what comes out of their mouths!

I think every mom (at some point) asks why!! I know I do, countless times everyday in fact!
Such a great post, it made me smile and feel like I actually know your little guys.

Mason used to only say why ... like 5000+ times a day (no joke) and now that it's just a few times a day ... I find myself missing his whys and asking a whole lot more of whys myself :)

Fun, thought-provoking post!!

I promise it's not just boys. Girls are equally confusing.

I'm wondering now, why we don't eat ice cream for breakfast. It's milk, right? Milk and sugar might be better than fried bread in a skillet (pancakes) or mini-cakes that we call muffins. I think I'm offering it tomorrow.

the "whys" are what makes them all unique. one "why" i can answer for you, however... EVERYONE is obsessed with bubble wrap, lol!!!
much love,

Tactile aversion - HAHAHAHAH! You are hilarious.

Bubble wrap - yes! It's not just your boys - I think it is a fascination with all kids across the board. If we get a package with some of that in there, I always try to preserve it in case I ever need it. Savannah will bargain with me - "Can I pop one? Just one. Only one." And then a few seconds later..."Ok, just one more?"

BTW - I am trying to teach her the names of the states, and the easiest way to do this seems to be to associate someone we know who lives in that state. So...you are now known as Miss Wendi who lives in Michigan. :)
